Here at Blue Moon…

Our mission is to rescue and rehabilitate animals in need - especially donkeys - and, through those animals, to enhance the emotional well-being of humans. Our vision is a place of compassion, connection, and healing for animals and humans.

Our Georgetown, TX sanctuary is home to more than 120 donkeys, plus a motley crew of other barnyard friends, who needed help and healing. This is a place where they rediscover safety, trust, and the joy of being loved exactly as they deserve.

Whether you’re here to donate, adopt, volunteer, or just fall in love with a few long-eared friends, we’re so glad you’ve found us.

Meet Ruby, the donkey who started it all.

When sanctuary founder Anna Eby visited a friend who had rescued two donkeys from a kill pen, she didn’t expect her life to change forever.

But then she met the donkeys and was instantly smitten. Once Anna learned about kill pens, the donkey-skin trade, and the neglect these animals quietly endure, she simply couldn’t walk away. Mere weeks later, she welcomed Ruby, Blue Moon’s first rescue donkey.

What began with one rescued donkey and a determined heart quickly grew into a mission: to protect and champion these clever, affectionate, wildly underestimated creatures.

Today, Ruby’s legacy lives in every donkey who finds safety and love at Blue Moon Sanctuary. It’s a powerful reminder that it only takes one unexpected connection to kick off a full-blown donkey revolution.
