Here at Blue Moonโ€ฆ

Our mission is to rescue and rehabilitate animals in need - especially donkeys - and, through those animals, to enhance the emotional well-being of humans. Our vision is a place of compassion, connection, and healing for animals and humans.

Our Georgetown, TX sanctuary is home to more than 120 donkeys, plus a motley crew of other barnyard friends, who needed help and healing. This is a place where they rediscover safety, trust, and the joy of being loved exactly as they deserve.

Whether youโ€™re here to donate, adopt, volunteer, or just fall in love with a few long-eared friends, weโ€™re so glad youโ€™ve found us.

Ready to meet the herd?

Meet Ruby, the donkey who started it all.

When sanctuary founder Anna Eby visited a friend who had rescued two donkeys from a kill pen, she didnโ€™t expect her life to change forever.

But then she met the donkeys and was instantly smitten. Once Anna learned about kill pens, the donkey-skin trade, and the neglect these animals quietly endure, she simply couldnโ€™t walk away. Mere weeks later, she welcomed Ruby, Blue Moonโ€™s first rescue donkey.

What began with one rescued donkey and a determined heart quickly grew into a mission: to protect and champion these clever, affectionate, wildly underestimated creatures.

Today, Rubyโ€™s legacy lives in every donkey who finds safety and love at Blue Moon Sanctuary. Itโ€™s a powerful reminder that it only takes one unexpected connection to kick off a full-blown donkey revolution.
